It’s been a while since I’ve had a good look at the Moon.

I’m embarrassed to admit that my practice of astronomy as a hobby has taken a back seat to other activities. Whatever astrophotography I have done has cooled off even more. But with clear skies in between bouts of clouds and rain and with the Moon riding high in the sky around its first quarter phase, I set my Questar up and seized my opportunity tonight.

I’ve commented before that springtime is my favorite time of year to observe the Moon. It’s not spring, to be sure. But with our lunar neighbor high in the sky during a convenient observing hour, I thought to myself that spring feels right around the corner even though the winter solstice has only been a handful of days past.
