Late last month, my wife and I spent a good number of days in Seattle. To my amazement, I realized that, in spite of all these years living in the Pacific Northwest, I had never been to the Emerald City during the summer.

On our last night, I ventured out with my Nikon F loaded with Kentmere Pan 400, which I shot at EI 1600. Earlier in the month, I was impressed with my experience pushing Kentmere 400, and I was eager to try it again at night on different city streets.

I commenced making exposures moments after I stepped out, but the area around Pike Place made for the best subject matter, however cliché it might be as far as tourists shooting pictures in Seattle is concerned.

Since I got back into shooting film, I’ve been narrowing myself down to one or two film stocks to focus on. I feel like I’ve sampled my fair share of different emulsions. The last time I bought film, I ordered several rolls of Kentmere Pan 400 thinking that I would make it my main everyday film stock to use. But since then, I’ve decided instead to stock up on Kodak Tri-X 400 and Ilford FP4 Plus. Those two classic film stocks give me much more satisfying images both digitally and in prints. What remaining rolls of Kentmere 400 I have left will probably be put to use for other nighttime street photography outings.
