“No Kings” Protest on Film

Along with what sounds like millions of others across the United States, I attended my local No Kings protest. Like the last protest event I went to, my interests did not lie so much in participating—although, to be sure, I do have my political opinions—as much as doing a bit of people photography on film.
With a few rolls of Kentmere Pan 200, I ventured out with my Nikon F and 135mm f/3.5 lens to see what I could capture on film.
A few months ago, I was excited to learn that Harman Technology had released Kentmere Pan 200. Along with an ASA rating that sits right in the middle of the existing 100- and 400-speed Kentmere lines, all the news reports touted this new emulsion’s higher contrast. I was eager to try it out, and this event seemed like a great place to do so.
I wasn’t disappointed. Contrast is indeed more pronounced than either Kentmere Pan 100 or 400, and grey tones are still pleasing. Since the late morning sunlight was a bit harsh, I’m looking forward to trying out Kentmere Pan 200 under a variety of other lighting conditions.
