Solar activity was a little anemic today.

WARNING: When observing the Sun, be sure to do so safely! Use only equipment that is designed specifically for that purpose and is produced by reputable manufacturers. Follow their directions closely. Do not improvise your own filter material for solar observing. If you are careless, you risk instant and permanent vision loss or injury.

We’ve had a beautiful stretch of weather in recent days. Even summer right around the corner, the breeze was pleasant, and the heat wasn’t at all oppressive like it can be in my neck of the woods this time of year. In other words, it was a perfect day to break out the solar observing gear.

Here’s the view in H-alpha:

Canon EOS M50 with Lunt Solar Systems 60mm H-alpha telescope, ISO 1600, 1/25 sec., f/8.

And in white light:

Canon EOS M50 with Orion 102mm Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope, ISO 100, 1/320 sec., f/13.

Both images are orientated uniformily.

Solar activity wasn’t all that exciting to observe today. The view in H-alpha, as usual, was more interesting than in white light. It’s a pity my camera can’t resolve the subtle chromospheric detail that I can see when my eye is at the eyepiece.
