Loneliness
Our apparent connectedness through technology and social media is often an illusion. In reality, a kind of sad loneliness characterizes a great deal of modern life.
The bigger a city is, the more intense that sense of disconnection is. Perhaps that explains my experience that doing street photography is often easier in places where people are indifferent toward one another. It may be easier, but I am still bothered by the underlying malaise that makes it so.
