Bicyclist

On one of my photo walks into town the other day, I happened to turn down a narrow laneway looking for some urban grit to photograph. Not really seeing much, I turned around and framed up what I thought at the time would be a mediocre shot at the end of the laneway. With my camera set to aperture priority and manual focus mode, I set my focal ratio to f/2 and focused on the area around the street running perpendicular to the laneway. My intention was to render the foreground out of focus.
In the blink of an eye, a bicyclist rode past, leaving me with that much time to take the shot.
This is not the best photograph I’ve ever taken. But as I wrote about not too long ago, it always makes me smile when I can capture moments like this. I was especially happy to get the cyclist centered between buildings with the leading lines of laneway guiding the eye to him.
