The Moon on November 7, 2024

Although the seeing wasn’t great, it still felt nice to get out with a telescope to have a look at the Moon.

If spring is my favorite time of year to do lunar observing, then I suppose fall is my least favorite. But there’s never a bad time to pull out my 1962 Questar if the sky is clear and the Moon is shining.

Tonight, the Moon was a boiling mess. We had a rather mild afternoon earlier today. It was warm in the Sun, but the air was still cool especially in the shade. With that temperature differential, I find that that usually bodes poorly for atmospheric stability. Although the seeing was bad, it was still nice to get out and have a peek at the Moon, something I’m sad to confess I haven’t done in a while.
