WARNING: When observing the Sun, be sure to do so safely! Use only equipment that is designed specifically for that purpose and is produced by reputable manufacturers. Follow their directions closely. Do not improvise your own filter material for solar observing. If you are careless, you risk instant and permanent vision loss or injury.

Over these past several days, a large sunspot group has been rotating into view. It joins an already impressive set of sunspot groups that have been visible across the solar equator.

Today was the first day in a while that I have been able to get out and snap a photograph of the Sun. As my luck would have it, there was a layer of high-level hazy cloud cover that marred the view somewhat. But even if it’s a little hazy, the Sun can usually power through that cloud cover without much of a problem.
